The Need

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) has opened registration for its Out-of-School Time Tutoring (OSTT) program for the 2022 school year. Its focus is on providing expanded learning opportunities for students to achieve greater academic success though high-dosage tutoring. High-dosage refers to individualized tutoring with a low tutor to student ratio and sufficient frequency to grow a student's skill set.

CMS is utilizing $50 million from the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act of 2021 to provide students with out-of-school tutoring to help offset lost instructional time due to COVID-19. The district is partnering with 30 third-party vendors to provide this valuable learning time for students with the most needs.

Students from 42 of the highest need CMS schools have been identified for this program. Site coordinators, from these schools, will reach out to eligible families to register them for tutorial services. Parents, whose children attend these selected schools, may also register their children for services here. Technology, hotspots, transportation, and snacks will be provided at no charge.
