Student Discipline and Behavior Support
Alternative Education Programs

Thompson Child and Family Focus (TCFF) 6800 St. Peter's Lane, Matthews, NC

  • The CMS Student Services and Student Discipline and Behavior Support departments have partnered with Thompson Child and Family Focus (TCFF) to develop an alternative education middle school at the TCFF Saint Peter's Lane campus, located on the Matthews/Charlotte line (off Independence Blvd near the intersection of Sardis Road).
  • All middle school students who in prior years, were reassigned to Turning Point Academy following a Disciplinary Team Meeting (DTM) or following Triage will instead attend the TCFF campus.
  • The TCFF/CMS middle school program will utilize an integrated academic and mental health model, with a baseline level of social-emotional instruction and support woven into the master schedule. For example, all students would receive instruction in core subjects, group counseling in accordance with their identified areas of need, and coping skills instruction interwoven into electives and core instruction.
  • In addition to the basic integrated program model, all students will be assessed for more intensive mental health supports at the time of program intake. Parents will be provided information about their student's mental health needs by TCFF staff and have the option to elect for more intensive services that would be integrated into the school day and could extend into the home as needed.
  • Academic services will be provided by CMS teachers. As well, students will be provided breakfast and lunch, as in all CMS schools.
  • Transportation is provided following the initial intake.
  • The on-site administrative contact for TCFF is Neale Johnson.
