Credit by Demonstrated Mastery (CDM) in CMS directly aligns to the vision of the Advanced Studies Department. The purpose of CDM is to allow students to earn credit for a high school course by demonstrating a deep comprehensive understanding of the content without course enrollment or seat time.
The CDM process requires student application/family agreement and multi-phase assessments. These phases are as follows:
Phase 1
Assessment: Students take an examination to establish their mastery of the foundational skills and content that this course/subject requires.
Phase 2
Artifact Development: Students demonstrate the ability to apply their deep understanding of the content standards for this course.
Students receive clear expectations and guidance regarding artifact development, including scoring criteria or rubric that details requirements.
