Planning Services

CMS is working on a Student-Centered Plan for Programs, Boundaries and Facilities and would like your input! Over the next two months, the Comprehensive Planning Team will conduct a series of in-person and online sessions. There are nine specific topics to be covered, but general feedback is encouraged and all are welcome, including parents, CMS employees, and others interested in engaging in their local public school system. In addition, the team is prepared to meet with established community and school groups upon request. A survey instrument will also be released. For more information and the schedule of events, please visit: Comprehensive Review Information. Questions and comments may be directed to CMSreview23@cms.k12.nc.us.

Planning Services is responsible for school attendance boundaries for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS). Each student is assigned a home school based on their residential address. As the student population in Mecklenburg County increases, CMS must periodically update school boundaries to accommodate growth and new school construction.

When CMS considers school boundary changes, a series of workshops with parents and community residents are held to gather input on proposed boundary options for the future school year. During these meetings, CMS staff provides information about boundary options and collects feedback from workshop participants. Feedback from the community is valuable to the boundary process.

The boundary process includes public meetings, presentations to the CMS Board of Education, public hearings, and Board of Education vote.
