Student Email

Overview

Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools provides Google Mail accounts for students in grades Pre-K to 13 for use in conjunction with coursework and day-to-day educational activities.  The service offers a confidential and secure channel for students to communicate with CMS teachers and administrators.  In some cases due to age or accessibility, guardians or parents may use the service on behalf of a student.

Security

Safeguards are in place to protect students by blocking incoming email from unapproved sources outside CMS.  Your student should not receive any marketing or spam email. Additionally, students are not able to send email to domains outside CMS.

Access

Accessing student email is simple.  If the student is using a CMS Chromebook, open Chrome and go to https://mail.google.com . The student will be automatically logged in.  If the student is using a personal computer or device, do the following:

  1. Using a web browser, go to https://mail.google.com

  2. Enter the student's email address when prompted.  The format for this is the student number followed by @student.cms.k12.nc.us.  E.g. 1234567890@student.cms.k12.nc.us.  Click Next.

  3. Enter the student's Google password.  Click Next.

Have a Problem?

If your student is having problems logging into a CMS Chromebook or Google Mail, have the student contact his/her teacher.  Every teacher at CMS has the ability to reset their student’s Google passwords.
