Summer Food Service Program Helps Reduce
Child Hunger in Charlotte
Most children cannot wait for school to be out in June. However, for some parents, when school is out for summer, they worry about where their children will get breakfast or lunch. This summer over fifty local Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) will provide breakfast and lunch to feed hungry children in our community. We also have the Lunch Express sites for some remote areas that is difficult for students to get to a feeding site. Some sites begin their summer feeding programs on Wednesday, June 12th, 2019.
CMS's Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture and administered through the NC Department of Public Instruction. CMS is reimbursed for the cost of the meals served to eligible children. Children 1-18 receive meals at no cost through the program and all meals meet nutrition standards based on federal guidelines.
