Global Education - NCDPI and CMS

The State Board of Education in 2014 and 2015 took action to provide statewide infrastructure that supports and guides educators in a common vision for global education North Carolina Public Schools. It designated recognition for educators, schools and districts that show significant focus and dedication.

Global Educator Digital Badge

  • At CMS, central office staff and teachers representing four learning communities and seven schools across the district are currently pursuing the Global Educator Digital Badge recognition at the state level.

Global - Ready Schools Designation

  • ​Piedmont Middle School received the Global-Ready School Designation at the Prepared level in the fall of 2015. Piedmont Middle School was the first school in the state to earn the designation.

  • East Mecklenburg High School received the Global-Ready School Designation at the Prepared level in the fall of 2016.

  • East Mecklenburg High School was the first high school in the state to earn the designation.

  • E.E. Waddell Language Academy received the Global-Ready School Designation at the Prepared level in the fall of 2017. E.E. Waddell Language Academy is the first K-8 Language Immersion school in CMS to earn the state designation.


Global - Ready District Designation

The North Carolina State Board of Education recognized Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools as a Global-Ready District at the Prepared level on February 1, 2017. CMS was one of the first two districts in the state to earn the designation.​

 The "Framework for Developing Global and Cultural Competencies to Advance Equity, Excellence and Economic Competitiveness" has been designed by the U.S. Department of Education. It is research-based and provides a framework for the development of global and cultural competencies from early childhood through college. Educators can use the framework as a guide to consider how global competencies are developed over time and at different levels of education.
