Lunch with A Lawyer

The Lunch with a Lawyer program is an ongoing partnership between Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and the Mecklenburg County Bar Association to provide attorney mentors for middle school students who are interested in learning more about a legal career.

Each spring, schools are asked to nominate two rising 8th grade students who demonstrate high academic achievement, have excellent conduct and are recommended by a teacher and the principal to participate in the program.

Parents are notified of student selection so that they can discuss the opportunity with their child and decide if they want to participate in the program.  A kick-off luncheon is held in August each year to allow school administrators, parents, students and attorney mentors to meet one another.

The program involves a monthly lunch meeting between the student and his/her attorney mentor.  With the permission of the parents, the attorney may also invite the student to participate in other related activities.  At the end of the school year, each student is given the opportunity to shadow his/her mentor for a day.
