New principals announced at Board of Education meeting

​Three principal appointments were announced at tonight's Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education meeting.

Nizy John was named principal at River Gate Elementary. John has been the principal at GraceLife Academy of Pineville since 2019. She was with CMS as a principal at Polo Ridge Elementary from 2012 to 2016. John was an assistant principal at Ballantyne Elementary from 2010 to 2012 and at David Cox Road Elementary from 2004 to 2010. She has a bachelor’s degrees in English language and literature, and education, and a master’s degree in English language and literature from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala, India. John also has a master's degree in educational leadership from the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Va.

Courtlyn Reeves was named principal at Ridge Road Middle. Reeves has been the principal at Greenway Park Elementary since 2018. He was an assistant principal at Vance High from 2015 to 2018 and dean of students at North Mecklenburg High from 2014 to 2015. Reeves was a fellow and director for the Aspiring Leaders Program from 2012 to 2016. He was a teacher and graduation director at Vance High from 2011 to 2013. Reeves has a bachelor’s degree in politics and journalism from Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, and a master's degree in educational leadership from Winthrop University, Rock Hill, S.C.

Jamie Brooks was named principal at Ardrey Kell High. She has been the principal at Community House Middle since 2008. She was an assistant principal at Ardrey Kell from 2007 to 2008, at Mint Hill Middle from 2003 to 2007 and at Northeast Middle from 2000 to 2003. Brooks was a teacher at Carmel Middle from 1994 to 2000. Brooks has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Va., and a master’s degree in educational administration and supervision from Winthrop UniversityRock Hill, S.C.
